Papa GM: John how can we move Buick to target 50-year-olds instead of 70-year-olds?
John Heinricy: Let’s put a truck engine in it, and I’ll say some bullshit about it being faster than the fastest car we ever made even though this is just a fancy Impala.

The tl;dr on Heinricy’s quote is: “It’s not that great, but we rummaged through the GM parts bin and threw some stuff at it to make it at least a little better than your typical Buick”

Built on the horrific GM10/W-body platform.

I wouldn’t say it’s horrible, had a 2nd gen Lumina in the family, it’s comfy.
Plus it’s financially successful for GM, so successful they kept it in production for so long, after tooling is all paid off.

No, the W-body is without a doubt one of the worst platforms of all time.

That goes to J-Body.

At least the J-body wasn’t kept alive from 1988-2016!

You know the LaCrosse was tuned better than it’s platform mates. They really wanted it to stand out.

STOP REMINDING ME I BOUGHT THE WRONG CAR.

Heinricy knew what he was doing that is for sure.

If your logic of a platform being shitty is how long it’s kept in production, that goes to the Mk2 Jetta: 1984-2013, 29 years.
And that’s only one example of zombie platforms still lurking. Somewhere British Leyland’s tools are still churning out cars.

The MK2 Jetta is world more engaging than any w body was to drive.

I didn’t know this was a thing. That’s actually kinda cool. V8 Buick’s are always cool.
